What is Solutions to Poverty? (STOP)
The Solutions to Poverty (SToP) movement is a comprehensive approach targeted at reducing poverty in Louisiana. This movement came into existence in 2004 under the leadership of Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco. She realized, as we all do, that poverty is too expensive to be ignored.
The three focal points of the movement are community, policy, and legislation:
- Community
A grass-roots approach is under way to empower communities to identify and utilize resources effectively. The community is the project’s most important element and will serve as a catalyst for change.
- Policy
Communities will work to create initiatives and suggest improvements to programs that enhance the quality of life for Louisiana citizens.
- Legislation
Communities work to impact legislation that creates opportunities for Louisiana citizens to move from poverty to self-sufficiency.
It all starts with you!
We are calling on all Louisiana citizens to play an active role in the SToP movement. You play the leading role. We need you to engage your family, friends, and neighbors because the solution starts with you. Please Join the Movement so that we can keep you up to date of meetings, best practices, and successes of the Movement.
