Affectionate 14-year-old Loves the Feel of Grass Under His Feet

Dewayne is an affectionate 14-year-old who gets along well with others once he becomes familiar and feels comfortable. He has beautiful brown eyes that compliments his complexion. He enjoys watching TV, listening to Rock&Roll and R&B music, playing in the yard, and loves the feel of the grass under his bare feet and hands. Dewayne's autism tends to cause him to shy away from unfamiliar people and surroundings, but he shares a special bond with his caregiver.

Dewayne loves to eat and enjoys going out to eat. He likes rolling a ball and especially likes playing with the basketball. Dewayne has the physique of a potential basketball player, as many have commented on his basketball player height.  However, Dewayne needs work on his socialization skills in order to succeed at playing basketball on a team with his peers.

Despite Dewayne's learning and development disabilities, he has accomplished many goals since placement in foster care. Dewayne attends school in a structured individualized educational setting that assists him with speech and occupational therapy.  Dewayne enjoys being outdoors and going on outings with his caretaker.

Dewayne's ideal family will be patient, supportive, and willing to work with the challenges he faces in "fitting in" with his peers, and in his quest at becoming more independent.  Dewayne needs a dedicated and resourceful family that will love him unconditionally and ensure that all of his special needs are met.
